Bob Mackie, 66, is a native of Port Dalhousie where he participated in rowing as an oarsman, coach and executive member for the St. Catharines Rowing Club. He has been a baseball fan for more than 60 years and has realized a dream-becoming an owner of a baseball team-the Hamilton Thunderbirds of the Intercounty Baseball League.
Mackie, during his rowing career, was the winner of six gold medals at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta, five gold medals at the Canadian Schoolboy Regatta, and one gold medal at the American Schoolboy Regatta. That victory, in 1958, marked the first time that a Canadian crew captured won a gold medal in that event.
Bob retired from teaching in 1996. During his 33-year career he was an elementary school teacher, math consultant and administrative assistant. Today, he is a management consultant to an educational consulting company, Action Learning Systems in Monrovia , California.
