Game Summary: The Barrie Baycats got right back in the hunt for first place in the Intercounty Baseball League with a pair of wins in IBL play Thursday night.
Barrie defeated the Hamilton Thunderbirds 7-4 in the regularly scheduled game after winning the completion of a suspended game before hand to improve to 20-7 on the season, just ½ game behind the red-hot Guelph Royals, who have won 14 straight games to take over first place.
In the regular game, Paul Spoljaric pitched seven strong innings for the win, allowing three runs on nine hits with six strikeouts and one walk. Scott Price finished up, allowing one run on three hits in the final two innings.
A two-run double by Todd Betts keyed a four-run fourth inning for Barrie, while Jared McCord had three hits and drove in a pair of runs. Ryan Spataro and Dave Latour both added two hits for Barrie.
Loser Scott Wells went 3 1/3 innings, allowing six runs on six hits with five walks and four strikeouts for Hamilton. Richard Rausch had two hits and drove in three runs for the T-Birds, while Tom Robertson and Matt Bekar both had two hits.
Earlier in the evening the Baycats and the Thunderbirds completed a suspended game from June 5 with the Baycats scoring two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to score a 6-5 win.
Ryan Asis sacrifice fly scored Matt Proctor with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth to give the Baycats the win, even though Barrie stranded 15 runners in the game.
Reliever Brad Bissell picked up the win, allowing one run on one hit over three innings with one walk. Spataro had three hits and drove in two runs to pace the nine-hit Barrie attack.
Rausch had two hits including a homer and Richard Wright also homered for Hamilton. Geoff Allen had a pair of doubles and drove in a run for the Thunderbirds.
Reliever Rob Forscarin was the loser for the T-Birds, allowing two runs on one hit with six walks in 2 2/3 innings.

Game Summary: In Hamilton, Kevin Whyte pitched a complete game five-hitter as the Thunderbirds edged the Stratford Nationals 2-1.
Whyte allowed just one earned run while striking out 10 and walking three to give the Thunderbirds a crucial win. Hamilton is now tied for seventh place with the Kitchener Panthers, four games ahead of the Nationals, for the final IBL playoff spot.
Adam Doyle drove in the winning run for the Thunderbirds with a sixth inning single, driving in Scott Wells from second base, to give Hamilton a 2-1 lead they wouldn"t relinquish.
Billy Lawrence had two hits for the Thunderbirds, who won despite getting just four hits off three Stratford pitchers.
Simon Liston started and went five innings for the Nationals, allowing one run on two hits with five strikeouts and six walks. Reliever Cory Hammond was the loser, allowing one run on one hit in one inning with a strikeout and two walks, as he allowed the sixth inning, game-winning run.
Ryan Blackburn and Duane Ryan both doubled for the Nationals, who managed just five hits.

Game Summary: In Hamilton, the Brantford Red Sox scored four runs in the seventh inning and had 13 hits in a 7-1 win over the host Thunderbirds.
Dave Parsons had three hits and drove in a pair of runs for the Red Sox, who improved to 19-11 with the victory while sending the Thunderbirds into eighth place at 8-19.
Wayne Forman had two hits and four RBI for the Red Sox, while Adam Parliament and Al Stephens both added a pair of hits as starter Steve Murray and three relievers combined on a seven-hitter for the win.
Murray went six innings, allowing one run on seven hits with seven strikeouts, and the Red Sox took advantage of three Hamilton errors to score six unearned runs.
Henry Duke had two hits and drove in a run and Matt Bekar also had two hits for the Thunderbirds.
Hamilton starter Jesse Reinstein took the loss. He allowed 12 hits and seven runs – but just one earned run – with one strikeout over 6 1/3 innings.

Game Summary: In Toronto, the Maple Leafs pounded out 18 hits to maul the Hamilton Thunderbirds 17-9 and win their second consecutive game.
The Leafs sent 14 men to the plate in a nine-run second inning to pick up the easy win and improve their record to 12-17 and secure a playoff spot.
Gamin Teague belted a pair of homers and drove in four runs for the Leafs, while Jeremy Walker homered and drove in four runs. Kyle Degrace also homered and drove in a pair of runs. Joe Colameco added three hits and two RBI and Rob Gillis had three hits and drove in a run while Rodney Caballero also homered for Toronto.
Doug Dimma (3-3) went six innings for the win, allowing five runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
Hamilton starter Rob Foscarin (2-2) was tagged for 11 runs, nine earned, on 12 hits over three-plus innings to take the loss.
Tom Robertson and Geoff Allen both had two hits and drove in two runs for the Thunderbirds.

Game Summary: In Brantford, four Red Sox pitchers combined on a three-hitter as Brantford beat the visiting Thunderbirds 6-3.
Jake Eliopoulos picked up the win, going five innings as the Red Sox won their 20th game of the season. He allowed three runs on three hits with five strikeouts and six walks.
Newcomer Rick Hummel pitched two shutout innings, another newcomer Gabe Ribas tossed a scoreless eighth and Marc-Andre Major picked up the save with a scoreless ninth, striking out the side after giving up two walks.
Lee Delfino and Josh McCurdy both homered, had two hits and drove in two runs for the Sox, while Adam Vella had a pair of singles in the nine-hit attack.
Hamilton starter Scott Wells pitched a complete game, allowing six runs on nine hits with 12 strikeouts and five walks. Wells also had a pair of hits for the Thunderbirds (8-22).

Game Summary: The London Majors closed in on their first pennant in 20 years with a 13-8 win over the Hamilton Thunderbirds in one of four Intercounty Baseball League games played Sunday.
London last finished first with a division title in 1988 but the Majors are on the verge of a first place finish this year thanks to the win, coupled with the Guelph Royals split in a doubleheader at Toronto.
The Majors now lead the Royals by two games and can claim the title by winning their final two regular season games, regardless what Guelph does.
London pounded out 19 hits on Sunday against four Hamilton pitchers to improve to 26-8. A five run seventh inning was the deciding factor for the Majors, who were led by David Narodowski"s five RBI. Narodowski had three hits, including a three-run homer, while Vince Burke had four hits and three RBI. Toshi Sasa also had four hits and drove in a run and Jeff Helps added three hits and two RBI.
Adam Echlin got the win, going seven innings. He allowed three runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts and no walks.
Coogie Freedman was the starter and loser for Hamilton, allowing four runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and one walk over five innings, before the Thunderbirds bullpen was pounded for nine runs in the next two innings.
Anthony Carlo had three hits and drove in three runs and Matt Bekar also had three hits for the T-Birds.

Game Summary: In Oshawa, the Dodgers pounded out 18 hits off two Hamilton pitchers to trounce the Hamilton Thunderbirds 15-2.
Winning pitcher Cam Gray (7-0) went seven innings, giving up only four hits, two runs and two walks while registering five strikeouts. Aaron Gordon finished up, allowing only two hits with two strikeouts.
Steve Wickens led the Dodgers with three hits and four RBI's while Steve Lewis added two hits, scored three runs including a sixth inning two-run, inside the park home run.
Tyler Johnstone and Ryan Fleming each added three hits and two RBI's while Sean Cunningham had three hits including two doubles.
Richard Rausch led Hamilton with two hits including a two run single in the fourth inning. Scott Wells also added two hits
Losing pitcher Anthony Carlo (0-3) went 4 1/3 innings, giving up nine runs, five earned, on nine hits and four walks. Doug Chrysler finished up giving up six runs, all earned, on nine hits and two strikeouts.

Game Summary: In Hamilton, the Thunderbirds held on for a 12-10 win over the Kitchener Panthers to move one game back of seventh place Kitchener. With the Hamilton win, the Stratford Nationals were eliminated from the post-season.
Hamilton held a 12-3 entering the ninth but reliever Kevin Whyte got the final out with the bases loaded for the save. The Thunderbirds took a 12-3 lead with seven runs in the seventh on three hits and four walks.
Winning pitcher Coogie Freedman (1-1) went seven innings, giving up only five hits, three earned runs and no walks while registering seven strikeouts. Scott Wells and Mike Bonnano pitched in relief with Bonnano allowing the seven runs, all earned, in the ninth on three hits and four walks.
Kitchener starter Lee Witmer (2-6) went six innings, giving up seven earned runs on four hits, two hit batters and one strikeout. Wes Koch and Justin Granado each pitched an inning to finish up.
Billy Lawrence had three hits and an RBI for Hamilton while Scott Wells had two hits and an RBI. Richard Rausch scored two runs including a solo home run.
Mike Andrulis had three hits and three RBI's for Kitchener with Jeff Pietraszko adding a solo home run in the third to give Kitchener a short-lived 3-2 lead.

Game Summary: In Barrie, Jake Hines and four relievers combined on a seven-hit shutout as the Baycats beat the Hamilton Thunderbirds 5-0 in the only game that was played Tuesday.
Hamilton was the home team for the game as poor field conditions prevented the game from being played in Hamilton. The Baycats finish the season 24-12 in third place and will face either Oshawa or Toronto in the opening round, while the Thunderbirds wind up 10-26 in eighth place and will face either London or Guelph.
Hines got the win, going five innings and allowing five hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Scott Price tossed two scoreless innings and Ryan Fisher and Chris England finished things up with a scoreless inning each.
Dave Latour paced Barrie's 13-hit attack with three hits, including a double, and drove in a run. Ryan Asis had two hits and two RBI, Jared McCord had two hits and one RBI and Glenn Jackson and Ian Choy both also had two hits for the winners.
Coogie Freedman took the loss for the T-Birds, who also used four pitchers. He went three innings, allowing one run on four hits with one strikeout.
Tim Hebner had two hits for the Thunderbirds.
